REVIEW OF USB 2.0 to MIDI Converter Adapter Cable (178.5CM-Length) AND USB to MIDI Cable with 16 MIDI Input/Output Channels (1.8-Meter)

REVIEW OF

USB to MIDI Cable with 16 MIDI Input/Output Channels (1.8-Meter)

AND

This is going to be a review of two products, that are 98 % equal, and they only have two differences, and that is price tag and 2 cm of cable. This will save me some work, space, time and it will give you as the buyer, easier decision making.

First, to start of, no drivers are included and most likely you could be expreiencing some problems with the setup nd making it work with software like, synthesia and FLStudio etc.

Some info about both of them:

USB to MIDI Cable with 16 MIDI Input/Output Channels (1.8-Meter)

Price: 7.67 USD
Cable Length: 1.8 meters

USB 2.0 to MIDI Converter Adapter Cable (178.5CM-Length)
Price: 5.99 USD
Cable Length: 1.785 meters

As you may already notice, there is almost no difference, and still they give you the same result and the same functionality.

Here are both of them, they are completely the same, the length, the design, the structure, everything. Sadly I can't tell you which one is which because after I opened them I couldn't tell the difference. Either way, you see the transmitter, the same as well.

I'm not sure if you can see the little discolouration on the left picture on the transmitter, but that is the only difference I could find. I haven't opened them, and checked the internal differences, but I don't think there is no change there either.

Here you can see the length of one of them. 180 cm. To be honest, I have a feeling that the more expensive version, has a faulty 180 cm, and that it as well is only 178.5 cm. Just to show people a reason for why their price is almost 8 USD instead of almost 6 USD.

Pros
  • Both of them have a nice length, just enough to reach the piano/keyboard and the PC
  • Both of them are nicely made!
  • LED indicators light up to show when output and input are active, also when it's connected or not.
  • It can work. I made both of them work on Vista, but not on XP.
  • They say drivers are included. That's positive, sad they can't work.
Cons
  • Both of them DO NOT include a driver for installation.
  • Only the expensive one includes an instruction manual and connection instructions
  • The transmitter connection points seem easy to break.
  • Not compatible with many programs like FLStudio, synthesia etc, when you make it work.
  • Laggy input, doesn't respond very fast. Poor speed.
  • Drivers are included, they say. I don't believe them, they wont work.

Both of them have the exact same USB connections, and MIDI OUT and IN connections.

Conclusion

I've been eager to test them out, and try to make them work, but it seems like some products just aren't made for cheap production. Maybe I should have considered, buying a Roland or Yamaha MIDI USB instead of these. They have a poor and slow respond speed, and it isn't much to brag about when it comes to the setup. Drivers included that don't work.
I wouldn't recommend none of them to anyone, just buy from a known brand/dealer. You will be much more satisfied and happy.
